North Korean and Iranian athletes refused the hand of Samsung. GANGNEUNG, South Korea, February 7 – Olympic organizers PyeongChang will not provide North Korean and Iranian players Samsung smartphones that are available to all other athletes for fear of violating international sanctions against countries, officials said on Wednesday.
Samsung Electronics invited about 4,000 units of the Olympic version of the Galaxy Note 8 for all athletes and officials national Olympic committees visiting PyeongChang.
But they will not be transferred to 22 the North Korean and four Iranian athletes, as such actions may violate sanctions of the United Nations prohibiting the providing countries with luxury goods and products that could potentially be used for military purposes, said the report of the Committee.
Galaxy Note 8 is the latest flagship smartphone released by Samsung, that says S Pen stylus and a unit with two lenses.
The special edition comes with Olympic themed Wallpaper and the app, which presents details about the Olympic winter games in PyeongChang.
Price tag 64 GB Galaxy Note 8 usually costs about of 1.09 million won (1 045 US$) in South Korea.
